Make New Friends
Are you friends with the members of your immediate community? If you don’t really know your neighbors, hold a block party to make new friends and celebrate this notable day. Make sure to hand out name tags—so that everyone can meet new friends during the party. Have a block-wide ice breaker session too, facilitating new friendships!
Read a Book
If your young child doesn’t spend much time thinking about friendships, help them to dig deeper with a picture book on the subject. Choose a few easy picks and read the books interactively, encouraging your child to ask questions and make statements along the way.
Draw Portraits
Create friend pictures using crayons, pencils or markers. Ask your child to draw a picture of their best friend. Discuss the portrait, asking your child to tell you why they’re friends with the person or provide a story about their friendship. Another option is to draw family friend portrait pictures. Have family members draw portraits of each other, helping your child to understand that mom, dad, brother and sister are friends too!
