World Heart Day Kids’ Activities
World Heart Day helps to bring attention to cardiovascular health. Even though your child may not think about the issues surround heart health often, they can still mark this special holiday. Check out the easy ideas that can help your child to celebrate World Heart Day and learn more about the cardiovascular system.
Heart Health Fun Run
Your kiddos can learn more about the heart-healthy benefits of exercise with a family fun run. Create your own mini marathon track around the neighborhood. Run the race together, timing each family member. Craft medals using cardboard, ribbon and kitchen foil or metallic paint. Hand out the medals to each family member after the fun run!
Healthy Heart Foods
Help your child to learn more about eating for a healthy heart. Leafy greens, whole grains, berries and dark chocolate are a few favorites that can help to improve or maintain heart health. Discuss what foods are heart-healthy–and which ones aren’t. Choose a few options and make a heart smart lunch or dinner. These could include a veggie sandwich on multi-grain bread, a leafy green salad, or a berry and dark chocolate parfait for dessert.
World Heart Day Art
Your kiddos can draw posters to mark this day. Brainstorm ideas as a family. Use large poster paper, markers, crayons, colored pencils or tempera paints to create imaginative designs and pictures. Add the holiday, the date and each family member’s name to the World Heart Day artwork.
