This is a brief outline of Adam Arthur Nimmo’smilitary career. There seem to be lots of details that can still be researchedby someone who has more time than me!

Adam Arthur Nimmo 20thof June 1891-19th june 1960) 1 day before his 69thbirthday! On leaving school, he trained and became an Electrical/Mechanicalengineer for Bedford Council (see Graduate listing photograph) Initial trainingfrom 30th Oct 1915. He joined the South Lancashire Regiment as 2ndLieut on 22nd Jan 1916. Promoted to Lieut 22nd July 1917. Had spellswith other regiments (Lincoln Regt. East Lancs etc (see his service booklet)Seems that he stayed in the Army after the war and I can see that he waspromoted to Capt in 1929 (London Gazette).

THE WATCH:

WATCH CASE:

This is an absolutely beautiful andlovely condition 3 piece genuine solid HIGH GRADE 925 STERLING SOLID SILVER Screwback FULL HUNTER watch case. The case is in lovely condition, showing no majorwear. There is the odd ding and light scratching, but the case is great for its100+ years of age. Case spring a little weak with age so front cover is openedwith a fingernail. This lovely watch case has an Engraving to the hinged frontcover which are the initials of its owner A.A.N (AdamArthur Nimmo). The SOLID SILVER wire lugs are in good condition with no repairsthat I can see. The inside of the case is beautifully marked with hallmarks for925 solid silver. The sponsors mark is GS for George Stockdale. The case isfully hallmarked for English sterling silver and has London Assay office markswith a date letter for 1915 (When he began basic training). The case measures3.4cms (34mm) across excluding the lugs and crown. It is of excellent qualityand a good weight as you would expect for a quality watch.

DIAL:

This is a fantastic lovely originalbright white dial. It is unsigned. The dial is in excellent condition and isshowing NO hairlines That I can see to the eye All of the BEAUTIFUL BLACKpainted Arabic numerals are crisp and sharp, as is the lovely red twelve. Thereare remains of the original lume on the hands and the numerals. The dial has agorgeous black painted outer minute track. The minute and hour hands are bluedsteel which look to be in good condition with some light oxidisation. Thecrystal is a plastic replacement. It is in excellent condition showing no wearmarks.

This is a wonderful genuine highgrade un-named 15 jewels Swiss made movement. It is unsigned. This fantasticmovement is in good working order and has just BEEN FULLY SERVICED and repairedto bring it back from the dead! at great cost to me by my watchmaker. I havetimed it over 24 hours and keeps good time to within approximately +/- 10 secsper day. It is manual wind and crown set. All in all this is a beautiful highquality original movement. The crown is white metal in color and looks to be areplacement from new.

BAND:

This beautiful timepiece is fittedwith a brand new 12mm extra long brown leather open ended band. It has a goldtone metal buckle. This is an absolutely fantastic band to this gorgeouswatch!! The watch and band measure just over 9 inches in total length.

MEDALS:

Also included in this personalcollection are Adam Nimmo’s genuine and original WW2 medals. There are 2 fullsize medals and 2 miniatures. The non-miniatures have Lt Nimmo’s name on theedges. They are in very good order.

Lt nimmo’s fascinating fullservice papers are contained in a blue press stud fastened wallet held within aanother outer cover. The papers are in good condition for their age and give agood account of his WW1 army life.

This pair of Heath &Co WW1binoculars are in good aesthetic condition, showing normal field use and arecomplete with their original brown leather case. All straps are present butworn. The binoculars work but could do with an overhaul. There is no name onthese binoculars, but I have no reason to doubt that they belonged to Adam Nimmoas they came as part of this full set of items belonging to him.

THIS IS A LOVELY TRENCH WATCH SHOWINGVERY LITTLE WEAR BUT A REALLY GREAT RARE BRITISH HISTORICALLY TRACEABLEMILITARY ITEM!
