Offered for your consideration is a vintage SHEAFFER propelling pencil, made in the USA c.1966. This pencil features a chrome plated metal cap over an attractive, and uncommon, orange plastic barrel with steel writing cone. It is the pencil version of the period SHEAFFER Safeguard clip ballpoint pens.

So, please have a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this splendid SHEAFFER pencil should join your collection.

This SHEAFFER pencil is in clean, excellent condition. It measures 4⅞” long by a hand-filling 7/16” at widest. There are no dings, chips, cracks, or real scratches, just some very faint usage marks from the years. Also, the clip rests tight with lift off of the cap. And, the original box is included bearing the SHEAFFER\'S moniker, so perhaps it\'s transitional? In any event, the pencil is very nicely preserved overall.

Most importantly, the pencil works reliably, extending the .036” (0.9mm) lead with a rotation of the barrel; retraction, when needed, involves turning barrel in the opposite direction (instead of the manual push needed with many other designs). Also, the original eraser is in nice structural shape but is probably too stiff after this many years to work properly. And, there’s a small quantity of spare leads in the customary place under the eraser.

Lastly, this SHEAFFER pencil has good balance, sufficient mass, and feels great to write with, especially using the large, soft lead of yesteryear!
