1890’s to 1900’s Buck Hooker cabinet card. Published in Hooker’s hometown of Richmond Virginia by the Jefferson Art Gallery. The Jefferson Art Gallery was owned by James Conway Farley. Farley was a freed slave. There are a handful of baseball cards published by African American 19th century photographers. All owned by little old men. This is the only one published by a freed slave. Hooker played MLB for the Reds. Hooker had an extensive minor league baseball career in his home state of Virginia. Card is about 4 by 6 inch. Stains, toning and wear. Feel free to ask questions.
