(8) ORIGINAL YOSEMITE PRE-NATIONAL PARK EARLY PIONEERS CABINET PHOTOS c1879-90 THE SUBJECT OF THIS GROUP OF 8 UNIQUE PHOTOGRAPHS IS OF YOSEMITE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA PRIOR TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PARK IN 1890. THESE CABINET PHOTO IMAGES ARE FROM AS EARLY AS c1879 UP TO c1890 BASED ON THE COMPARISON OF THE KNOWN VISUAL EVIDENCE AND WRITTEN HISTORY OF YOSEMITE VALLEY. Clark persuaded lawmakers to protect the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias as well as Yosemite Valley for future generations. His impact was so influential that an iconic peak, Mt. Clark, was named after him. ** (Husband) James Mason Hutchings (b.1814-d.1910) In 1855 James Mason Hutchings and entrepreneur artist Thomas Ayres and two others were the first to tour Yosemite. DIMENSIONS OF OUTER MOUNT: 5" x 5" USED. CONDITION ON ALL ARE VERY FINE WITH SOME VERY LIGHT HANDLING CONSISTENT WITH ITS AGE OF 125+ YEARS. PERIOD DETAILED IN PENCIL ON SEVERAL ON THE REVERSES.
