Description

Hand Made by Zuni Silversmith, Berquard Bowekaty. Circa 1950. This Magnificent Squash Blossom necklace SET features a total of 191 Number Eight Spiderwebbed Stones. 144 (Necklace) hand carved, natural old #8 Turquoise stones from the Number Eight Old Edgar turquoise mine in Carlin Nevada. Another 47 hand carved Old Number Eight turquoise stones on the (Bracelet).The Number Eight mine has been closed now for over 45 years. This Black Web material is some of the earliest, and finest material to ever be produced from the mine. Its very rare to find a MATCHED SET from this time period and usually indicates that it has been with the Original Owner since first purchase and not broken up.

Artist- Zuni MASTER Lapidarist Bernard Bowekaty (As Authenticated by his Grand-daughter Leonore Johnson). Bernard was born in 1927 and was creating stunning work by the early 1950's. **The Bracelet is inscribed with multiple names and numbers that I cant make out, and are typically the name of the Original Owner, and not necessarily the artist.Condition- ALL STONES ARE ORIGINAL AND IN TACT on both pieces. Necklace is on its ORIGINAL cotton cord and while fully wearable RIGHT NOW, I would personally have it re-strung on more sturdy silver fox wire in the future.
