These very rare porcelain and 14K Gold embellished Piero Fornasetti recipe plates are from the "Improbable Recipe" series featuring 12 different recipe plates custom made for the Fleming Joffe company, a small leather goods company in New York City as New Years gifts for their most prestigious clients in the late 1960's to early 1970's. Two plates were sent at a time per year. These were never available for retail sale. Fornasetti was not the only famous artist Fleming Joffe worked with. Andy Warhol produced ads and copy for them as well as decorating their show booths and showroom. They also commissioned Ogden Nash to pair his bouncy text with Warhol's drawings. All of the featured plates include materials the leather goods company used to manufacture their goods. Including the "faux" Corfam, representing a synthetic water repellent material used in place of leather. These are VINTAGE items that may show some signs of ageing and storage, the boxes and papers between the plates (original with print from Fornasetti Milano) show some age staining, creasing, and yellowing, the plates are in perfect condition though.
