Vintage Star Spangled Banner Silk Handkerchief
Vintage Star Spangled Banner Silk Handkerchief:
A beautiful piece of American history! This delicate silk handkerchief has been forever preserved in this professionally framed piece of art. On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key pens a poem which is later set to music and in 1931 becomes America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The poem, originally titled “The Defence of Fort M'Henry,” was written after Key witnessed the Maryland fort being bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the sight of a lone U.S. Flag still flying over Fort McHenry at daybreak, as reflected in the now-famous words of the “Star-Spangled Banner”: “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our Flag was still there.” It is unclear exactly when this handkerchief was made, but it could be from 1931 when The Star-Spangled Banner became our National Anthem as a way of promoting it and building patriotism across the country. There is some staining and fading that is common with a delicate piece from this time period. See photos for details and condition. Measurements of the frame are 22.5” x 22.5”. In times when some are kneeling during our anthem, here is a chance to honor it on your wall. Vintage Star Spangled Banner Silk Handkerchief. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class.
