World Environment Day Activities for Children

June 5th marks World Environment Day. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate with your family, check out these eco-friendly kids’ activities.
Make Recycled Art
Reuse what you already have at home! Go on a scavenger hunt around your house and look for anything the kids can turn into mini masterpieces. Cut old pieces of fabric or clothes and create a collage with glue, build a sculpture with washed and dried plastic yogurt containers and bottles or upcycle the cardboard from old boxes into a base for a mural.
Go On a Nature Walk
You don’t have to stage a major event to celebrate World Environment Day. Leave the car at home and take the streets, paths or trails with your feet. Go on a family nature walk, looking for flora and fauna in your local area.
Hold a Park CleanupÂ
Even though you don’t need to organize a community-wide event to celebrate this holiday, you can. Choose a local park or green area to clean. Ask friends, family, neighbors and your child’s classmates to pitch in and pick up garbage from the area. After the ground is clear and free of debris, add to the greenery and plant a rainbow of flowers!
