Martin Luther King Detroit Michigan Walk To Freedom 1963 Original Poster:
$9,500

You are purchasing an original poster from the Detroit Walk To Freedom. The Detroit Walk To Freedom was a 125,000 person march down Woodward Avenue in Detroit that took place on June 23rd, 1963. This March was in many ways a precursor to the March on Washington. Prior to the March on Washington, the Detroit Walk to Freedom was the largest civil rights demonstration in U.S. history at that point in time, and was the first place Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave an early version of his famed "I Have A Dream" speech that he would give in Washington two months later. It is very rare to find posters from these Walk to Freedom events from Detroit, Washington, and other cities involved in the movement that say "Walk for Freedom" as those in Washington threatened to shut down the movement if it was not revised to "Jobs and Freedom" as they did not want it exclusively associated with the civil rights movement. Raw poster measures 14" wide x 22" high and is in fair/good condition with handling wear. Poster has a tack hole in each corner, soiling throughout, tape in top right corner, and a vertical tear up the center that is taped together on the back side. Colors are bright and unfaded. Poster comes professionally archival framed in museum glass with a distressed wooden frame. Framed poster measures 17.5" wide x 25.5" high and looks outstanding! Framing and matting are in new condition. This is an essential piece of history and as such is a must-have in any collection of historical memorabilia. Purchaser pays $49.95 to ship USPS registered insured to a U.S. address. Please email me for a quote to ship outside the U.S. Thank you for shopping!
