Beautiful perfume bottle, in opaque polychrome glass and gold leaf with some "murrina" faces. Solid brass stopper. Last decade of 19th century, Murano - Venezia.It is ascribed to Giacomo Franchini, and produced by Pietro Bigaglia by some collectors, but we have a different opinion. The shape of the bottle, the colours and the quality of the murrine are different from the certified Franchini - Bigaglia bottles.Considering these items were very expensive also at their time, we suppose this kind of bottles was made as a second line production, by an unknown imitator. The result is as exceptional, as the Franchini', but of more than decent quality. We could also go to suppose they were made under the supervision of Bigaglia, when G. Franchini more or less stopped the production.
This bottle could be probably ascribed to the "Fratelli Toso Glass factory". There are 4 murrina faces : one of the pope,two of the emperor of Austria ( the fact that the emperor is old gives a later date than the one of Franchini: 1880?),one unknown, and an unusual Rialto bridge.Size:
