19TH. CENTURY RUSSIAN ICON OF VIRGIN OF THE BURNING BUSH. ( NEOPOLIMAYA KUPINA ).
This icon is an exquisite example of the finest icon painting schools that likely came either from
St.Petersburg or Moscow.Circa: last quarter of 19th century Egg tempera, gold leaf and gesso on wood panel.Complete with two insert splints on the back. Size: 14 x 12.25" inches, ( framed 18.5 x 16.125" inches ).In very fine hand carved, triple wire copper inlaid fruit wood box, with original glass.Condition: Very fine , with no restorations.This icon came from original owners that came to San Francisco via Harbin, China in 1920's.
A similar Icon in quality was sold on July 5th, 2018 in London Sotheby's sale for for over $32,000.
