Tintype Possibly Jesse James' Mother and Stepfather, Missing Arm, Face-Matched:
$299.00
This incredible antique tintype depicts a couple from the Old West who bear a very striking resemblance to Zirelda James and her third husband, Dr. Reuben Samuel, mother and stepfather of the legendary outlaws Jesse and Frank James. While there is no provenance for this photo and I cannot guarantee the identifications, it is evident that the resemblances to the comparison photos are uncanny. Very importantly, the woman is missing her right arm (note that it would be depicted on the left side here as tintypes are reversed images). Zirelda James had her right arm blown off by an explosive device when Pinkerton agents attempted to capture her son. Also, with the Betaface facial-matching program, the male matches the known photo of Reuben Samuels at the very high level of 88%. The item is sold as-is, and may have scratches, bends, peeling, soiling, discoloration, trimming or other damage, so please take a close look at the photos. Don't miss your chance to own this unique and important part of American history!
