Inauguration Day Activities for Children

Celebrate Inauguration Day with family-friendly activities that focus on presidential history. Whether your child is a history buff or you just want them to learn more about the presidential office, check out these Inauguration-themed ideas to try!
Presidential List
Create a visual list of every past present. Start with a large sheet of paper, butcher paper or plain rolled gift wrap. Position the paper vertically and start with the first president, George Washington, on the bottom. Add each president and the year of their Inauguration until your child gets to the top. They can also glue photos or portraits of each president next to their Inauguration date.
White House Model
Where will the president live? Help your child to learn more about the White House with a model-making art activity. Use cardboard boxes, poster board, white tempera paint, paintbrushes and glue to create a mini model of the president’s new home.
Portrait of the President
Show your child a photo of the new president to use for a painted portrait project. Your child can draw what they see onto a piece of card stock paper or poster board. Use temperas to fill in the portrait, creating a colorful craft to display on Inauguration Day!
