This is an extremely rare, fabulous & monumental french clock made by Samuel Marti about 1910. Completely made in massive ormolu bronze with enamel dial. Incredibly ornate and intricate piece. Very heavy (38 lbs.). 8 days winding movement in working order. Gothic style and figural (it has a lion face over the dial and a pendulum with a crowned dragon or gargoyle relief). Striking hours and half hours with an internal hammer for a functional bell (automaton). Very rare square french movement designed for automaton function, in this case to rotate the hammer that impact the bell. Excellent resonance. The french 8 days pendulum movement by Samuel Marti has striking function for hours and half hours. The movement is in running order and keeping time (cleaned and oiled) with the strikework functioning as it should when tested. We cannot however guarantee the movement or any mechanical operation following shipping and therefore recommend getting it overhauled by an expert to adjust it. A really exceptional piece for demanding collectors. Height is 34.1/5 inches. Wide is 18.1/10 inches.
