Each original Palladium (Kent) style frame measures approximately 24" x 18 1/2". Part of the gilding is 24k. The frames feature outset corners, pearl beading and a spiral ribbon detail. The glass is original. When purchased, the detail at the top of each frame was damaged. They have been professionally restored and the original back board and mat replaced.
Provenance on both exceptional pieces from circa 1868 to present time will be provided to buyer. Both pieces were handed down over several generations of one family for 150 years.
Plaque 1:12" by 9 3/4" - Columbus in Chains after Gustave Wappers.Impressed with sceptre, KPM, and letter Z.The size is also impressed on the back, which wasn't unusual on plaques at the time.Beautiful condition with vibrant color.
Plaque 2:10" by 12" - The Hermit after Salomon Koninck.This plaque is thicker and heavier than the Columbus plaque, and has more hand painted detail which may indicate it is earlier piece. The only impression on the back is the letter X. KPM produced the Hermit plaque for many years.Plaque is detailed and vibrant.
