1860’s Alexander Cartwright cdv published by Bradley & Rulofson of San Fran. Cartwright was an inventor and a baseball pioneer. He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The eagle back mark was used as a sign of patriotism during the US Civil War. If this were a post war image, Cartwright would likely be sitting on a prop chair. The prop chair was invented in 1864.
