1980s GRAIL RARE PROTOTYPE B&L Ray-Ban Half Ear Wrap Aviator 6214 Sunglasses
1980s GRAIL RARE PROTOTYPE B&L Ray-Ban Half Ear Wrap Aviator 6214 Sunglasses:
You are looking at a Ray-Ban prototype sunglasses from the 1980s. My fatherobtained the sunglasses as a giftfrom a representative because they were not needed any longer due to never beingproduced. Ray-Ban was trying to create new ideas for sunglasses as the company was in a down turn. The fullear wraps were a popular variant of their regular sunglasses, but some people complained about stress to their ears. These were created to potentially alleviate that stress but were not popular when tested so they were never produced beyond prototypes. Presumably most or nearly all were destroyed as there was no use for them. My father did not like them and wore them only a handful of times. I remember trying them on when I was young but couldn't wear them due to having prescription glasses. After getting contacts I tried to find them due to having deeper set earsbut they were in storage and unable to be found so I moved on to wearing Oakley sunglasses with straight arms. Once grown, Ihave lookedfor over 20 years to find another pair ofthese and have never seen another pair with the half ear wrap. Then about a month agoI finally found my father's sunglasses at my parents' house. After doing some more research and speaking with a couple of collecting experts I have reluctantly decided to sell them. This could be the only pair left in existence, truly making it a grail in sunglasses collecting!
In December 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous carcinoma cancer in my neck and throat which has moved on to my nerve cells (perineural invasion). My bills have become extensive and I am selling these sunglasses to help to partially pay for the surgeries and radiation I have endured so far. I know my battle is just beginning and I would like to thank whoever buys these ahead of time for your help. (If you question my story then in one of the picturesyou can see the scar on my neck from one of my surgeries to remove the lymph nodes in my neck and upper chest.)
