A very rare embroidered Flag that is directly linked to the civil war and is from the mid 19th century. It was made on behalf of the NY Union Grays of Rochester. The Flag reads “UNION IS STRENGTH / ROCHESTER UNION GRAYS/ PRESENTED BY THE LADIES”. Text is surrounded by an ornate floral border. There are very interesting articles online about the Union Grays and their involvement in the civil war. Good condition for age and has been professionally mounted, conserved, and framed behind acrylic sheet. Flag has scattered stains and discoloration, scattered losses to Flag, patina from age, creases, etc. Frame with scattered finish losses/scratches on sides of frame, acrylic with some scattered marks/scratches.
