Gabriel Cohen divided his time between Israel, Paris and America. It is only in the last few years since his death in 2017 that he is now becoming well-known for his imagery of places in Israel and especially Jerusalem.His paintings are going up in value. His imagination is boundless yet humor plays a big part in his art. Up for sale is a 1987 painting, oil on paper, by Gabriel Cohen titled on the lower right "The Spectacle of Israel's Triumphant Purim Celebration and the Hanging of All of Hamen's Ten Sons". This is written in French. It is dated 1987 and it is signed "Cohen Gabriel" on the bottom right. The buildings have Stars of David indicating this is the Jewish quarter Shoushan, Persia.The dancing of the Jews, religious and all, is amusing and inspires great joy and success.The artist makes light of the ten hanging sons yet you can feel a touch of melancholy. This piece has marvelous provenance and would be a great addition to any Israeli or Judaica art collection. A brief note on the gold striping in this painting. The artist describes it as super lac. The gold certainly shimmers in the sunlight.There is no frame. There are 4 thumbtack holes in the utmost corners of this piece and will be shipped flat and not rolled in a tube.
