ORIGINAL Halloween III: SEASON OF THE WITCH 1982 DON POST PUMPKIN MASK
Includes the following pressed into the back center vertically (around the center ridge/fold line - SEE PICS 15-16):Copyright 1982 Dino Delaurentiis CorpA Don Post TM Mask
This IS NOT the 2012 Don Post or Trick Or Treat Studios remake...THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1982 MASK -I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER - I bought it new in ‘82!
I would’ve been 11, and I made my Mom walk with me across town to the costume shop (in Beaverton Oregon) and drop the ridiculous $39.95 ($130 if you adjust for inflation) for this awesome blaze orange day-glow Don Post Halloween III Pumpkin jack-o-lantern mask!I wore it trick or treating that year and loved it! And wore it many times (on occasion) since, but it’s been stored in the attic for the last two or three decades. I thought it was in my attic, but I couldn’t find it… then my parents sent me a picture of my Dad wearing it this Halloween!! - It was in their attic (stored in a box with stuffing in it).I wanted to find it for years to proudly display it (as I'm a big horror geek and fan of the films) - it's just as cool as I remember! However, upon getting it back and looking it up, I quickly realized this mask was a lot cooler than I thought.I mean Halloween III: Season of the Witch is great, and a growing cult classic.Who isn’t instantly won over by the Silver Shamrock jingle??Anyways, THE MASK’S CONDITION:
  • It’s still vibrant day-glow orange, with barely any paint chipping! (Note: the true color is hard to capture in pics, but is pretty close in most)
  • The rubber/mask is fully intact, and I think in good condition (soft to the touch and pliable) - no tears or cracks or anything!
  • It is however missing the 3 mesh screens for the eye and mouth holes.
  • And it also doesn’t have the original round cardboard “Silver Shamrock Novelties” tag.
That said, the mask is a bit misshapen as you can see.It clearly got bunched up somewhat in storage or what not.BUT THE PICS MAKE IT LOOK WORSE (they narrow and flatten it more than IRL)Pictures are taken with mask on a mannequin head display - without any padding to further shape/fill out the mask.**Sure I could stuff the mask more for better pics here (SEE THE NEWLY ADDED FIRST 2 PICS with some stuffing), but I want the buyer to be aware of the items true condition (SEE THE REST OF THE PICS).I intended to see about washing it, and looking up ways to possibly fix the somewhat crumpled rubber… until I realized what it might be worth! I’ll leave that to the long time owner, as I’m sure something can be done about that (if not just stuffing it so that it holds its true form).
  • ALSO COMES WITH BLACK CLOTH LINED MANNEQUIN HEAD DISPLAY (brand new $16 from Amazon)

My plan was to keep this and display it, as I say. But I just can’t justify that when we could really use the money. So I’m sure there’s a great owner looking to add it to their collection, as these masks truly seem to be quite rare.I did a lot of research, and can only find 4 sales online going back to 2013. That’s only 4 that have been offered for sale in the last 11 years… crazy! Also, as far as I can tell, only one has been offered in the last 5 years (since 2019), and that was earlier this year via Heritage sales for a hefty amount ($5,125) - which is how I arrived at my current asking price here.I also only found a couple sales for the 1983 Don Post version (the “smilin’ Jack” I believe it’s referred to as, which was different from this original movie mask for licensing reasons), and one of those sold here in September (for $1,625).
For comparison, the $5K+ Heritage sales sale really doesn’t speak much to the condition of that mask, but seems reliant on photos. And though the overall condition of that mask appears better, it clearly has what appears to be some tearing around the bottom opening (that can be seen in the pics there), of which there is none on mine. And there does appear to be some paint chipping on that one (whereas my mask is mostly free of that except on the stem - PLEASE SEE PICS).So in some regards that mask may be better, but in others it clearly is not.So I’d think this mask is at least pretty comparable.
I simply want the fair market value for my mask.If anyone knows of other verifiable sales of this ‘82 mask, please let me know.
So, I’m not sure what the true value of this mask is, but it feels like it's significant, and at or close to the Heritage amount. As these orange beauties just don’t seem to be around 42 years later, and are quite clearly highly desired.
Its still Halloween season, or this would make the ultimate Christmas gift!Just let me know if you have any questions. If the mask does not sell at this price threshold, I will consider serious offers.
And don't forget to wear your masks. The clock is ticking. It's almost time!
“Happy happy Halloween, Halloween, Halloween,Happy happy Halloween. Silver Shamrock!”
