Lieutenant Colonel James Valentine [1887 1917] was early Britishaviation pioneer and World War Ifighter pilot who died in 1917. Valentine learned to fly in 1910 and received Royal Aero Club aviators certificate No.47 in 1910. Valentine quickly became known in the racing field and was one of only four airmen to complete the Circuit of Britain raceing and was the only British aviator to compete in the Circuit of Europe race. In 1914, upon the outbreak of World War I, he joined the Royal Flying Corps and was appointed a Chevalier of the Legion d\'honneur by the President of France for distinguished service in the field, along with a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. On August 7, 1917, Valentine died at the age of 29 from wounds received in Kieff, Russia. Listed for sale is a picture postcard signed by James Valentine. The photograph is a early aviation image of Valentine and the autograph is signed \'\'James Valentine\'\' in blackfountain pen. The postcard is addressed on the verso and interesting to note, thehand written text acknowledges the autograph of Valentine on the front of the postcard. The postcard measures5.25 x 3.25inches, it has trivial toning otherwise itis in fine condition.The autograph is authentic, rare to obtainand will be a desirable addition to any aviation collection.
