A Polish silver and silver Yom Kippur belt buckle, 1822
The tapered sides square buckle on the top is decorated with two spread winged birds on top, a running gazelle at the bottom and rampant lions holding a crowned coat of arms in the middle. The Hebrew inscription in the shield “A hairy man with a leather belt tied around his waist” (II Kings 1 :8”) refers to the prophet Elijah. Around the four edges, the inscriptions read “wings of a dove sheathed in silver, its pinions in fine gold” (Psalms 68 :14) and “Be strong as a leopard, and swift as an eagle, and fleet as a gazelle, and brave as a lion, to do the will of your Father who is in heaven (Ethics of the Fathers 5 :23).” This buckle is made with great delicacy and refinement.

Comes from very important judaica collection
Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe made a special belt for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which conceptually separates the
upper part of the body where the mind and heart are from the lower part with the genitalia. The buckles for these belts, such as this one, were at times made of silver and richly decorated with inscriptions and iconographic features relating to the holy day.
