New York City/ United Nations Humpback Street Sign E. 43rd  ST. & 1st AVE:
$8000.00

This is a complete matching double New York City "humpback" street sign from the intersection of East 43rd Street and First Avenue, by Tudor City and opposite the main entrance to the United Nations.
One sign reads E. 43ST. in large letters and 1ST Ave. in smaller letters in the "humpback" section. The other sign reads 1 ST AVE. in large letters and E. 43 in smaller letters in the "humpback". Each sign is double-sided. Both sides of both signs are porcelain with cobalt blue background and white lettering. (See photos.)
Each sign is in its original metal frame measuring approximately 24 1/4 inches wide by 12 1/4 inches high and 1" thick. The top (oval) opening is approximately 9 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches high. The larger lower opening is approximately 21 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches high. The entire piece weighs about 20 pounds.
What is especially unique about this item is that both signs are still joined by the hard-to-find highly ornate corner piece that joins both signs at right angles and enabled it to be affixed to the lamp post at the corner of this important intersection. (See example.)
This century old piece of New York City history is in excellent condition.
Because of the weight and shape of this item, local pickup at Pleasantville, NY only.
