ONE OF A KIND 1909 Post Card To J. Edgar Hoover, written by His Mother:
This is an extremely rare post card meant for president J. Edgar Hoover, written by his mother for Thanksgiving. It reads (a few words are illegible to me) "Dicky says: "John- eat every-(pick?)".
Be careful. Signed.
"Dicky refers to the nickname of his father, Dickerson Naylor Hoover. There are a few mistakes crossed out, and the mention of "Freemont" (misspelled) which likely is a reference to Las Vegas and Fremont Street. (Hoover was a huge gambler) and the organized crime that Hoover helped take down. (AL Capone and John Dillinger in particular).
He also started the FBI, and was quite controversial, as his "G-Men' would use questionable and possibly illegal tactics to catch/spy on/ kill mobsters. I could not find any example of his mother's signature, making this very very rare. Based on the mistakes and misspellings, this post card was likely tossed aside for a new one, considering there's no proper addresses listed. Thank you if you read this, and don't miss out on this truly one of a kind piece of US history. Thanks! - JW
