(Macau, China) Single folio leaf, a partially printed contract, in Spanish on one side and Chinese on the other, on light blue laid "O M HUTTON" watermarked bond paper for Chan Asiong, 30 years of age from the town of (Luodong ?,China) Signed by Portuguese agents J. R. Ferrar and J.R. Vargas; Chan Asiong has signed two times with his finger print, next to which is a Chinese "chop". Dated Macao, 23 June, 1858. From 1847 to 1874 approximately 125,000 Chinese laborers were imported to Cuba. The abolition of slavery created an entirely new and very profitable business, once again dominated by the British and Portuguese. The former ran the actual business while the Portuguese with their colony in Macau, China supplied the people. Dimensions : 10 1/2" x 15 13/16". Condition is very fine with a few tiny worm holes almost un-noticable. Fold lines with some light handling. A very light 1/2" crack on the front center right fold edge. Condition is consistent with its 163 years. This will be packed carefully and shipped in its own clear hard plastic top loader type holder.
