RARE: Large Les David Kachina Set c. 1972, Wupamo & Koyemsi; 1st Prize Ribbon:
$1900.0

A magnificent and 1st Place winning, large Kachina group or set featuring Wupamo and a Koyemsi (Mud-Head) by important Hopi artisan Leslie 'Les' David, carved c. 1972. I'm not familiar with the legend thus have no clue what the significance of the rope is, but it looks like Wupamo is possibly capturing the Koyemsi clown. The bottom is signed 'Les David' with the artist's 'paw print' marks. This carving won 1st prize in the Original American Indian & Western Relic Show held in Los Angeles, 1973. As noted on the back of the ribbon, it was exhibited/owned by Keams Canyon Arts & Crafts located in Arizona. The Kachina measures approximately 17" tall to its top feather and about 18" in length.
