The Voyages of the Morning by Gerald S. Doorly First U.S. Ed 1916 RARE. This is a very nice copy of the story told by Gerald S. Doorly, 3rd Officer on the \"Morning\" whose mission was to provide relief to Great Britain\'s Discovery exploration of the Antarctic from 1901 to 1904. That mission was led by Captain Robert Falcon Scott, whose crew included the famous Ernest Shackleton, who was the then 3rd Officer on the Discovery. The \"Morning\", Captained by William Colbeck, was to provide relief to Discovery, only to discover it had been locked in ice. Due to an injury, Shackleton and against his choice, was ordered to return to New Zealand aboard the Morning. This allegedly led to a rift between Shackleton and Scott. This is a rare account of the expeditions to the Antarctic and is a fascinating story. The Morning\'s voyage was to be documented by it\'s 2nd Officer, but when he failed to do so, Doorly took up the responsibility. The book is in very good condition, given that it is 104 years old. This is the first U.S. edition, with good boards, solid binding and all pages intact. I ship all books in boxes. I am offering free USPS Priority Mail shipping with this book.
