Pvt. Martin Teahan, a happy go lucky kid from the tough South Bronx Streets, enlisted at age 17 shortly after the attack on Pear Harbor. Matty, as he was affectionately known, forged his mother\'s signature and joined the82nd Airborne Division,508th Parachute Infantry Division. Uncle Matty would die during the invasion of Normandy. During the night beforeD-day, D-day was postponed for a day, Matty would engrave his name and the name of his Nottingham girlfriend Kitty, on the butt of hismajestic D-Day M1 Garand. During the invasion of Normandy Uncle Matty was shot, captured, and eventually executed. His historic D-day rifle was found by a French farmer and kept in the Normandy family for about 60 years. Somehow it would up on the collectors market. Active DutyFrench General Patrick Colletwould come across it in 2016, recognized its importance and bought it with one thought in mind, reunite it with his family. General Collet would track me down, starting the process of meeting theChairman of the Joint Chiefs General Milleyat my Uncle\'s grave in June 2016.
Subsequent to meeting General Milley at Uncle Matty\'s grave, his rifle was presented to me and I wrote a book about the whole journeywww.unclemattycomeshome.com. My uncle\'s rifle is now proudly on display in General Milley\'s office in the Pentagon.Upon General Milley\'s retirement Uncle Matty historic D-day rifle will be donated to the new Army Musuem at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

\"I just finished reading this great book written by Jim Farrell. Although I didn\'t know Jim we grew up only a few blocks apart. We lived near 182nd and the Grand Concourse in our beloved Bronx during the late sixities and early seventies. His childhood and teenage stories of the games we all played made me think happily of my own Bronx childhood.
