Goebel Hummel #119 "postman" - Crown Mark Era - Unusual Backstamp - Rare:
Hum #119 - "Postman" - this piece is the older style with five letters in the mail sack and is mold number 119 . Robert Miller's Price Guide classifies this mold number as a closed edition with newer pieces numbered as 119/0.
This piece is missing a trademark but does have the incised "119" and stamped in black lettering "I Gbl. 1948" on the underside of the base. The 1948 date supports that this piece was most likely made during the crown trademark era.The country of origin, normally found on pieces made by Goebel is not present. The M.I. Hummel signature is clearly incised on the top of the base.
Measures 5" in height.
There is no damage or repairs to the piece, only a very small chip, approximately 1/8", to the inside of the base and is not visible. There is a small glaze skip on the top edge of the hat.
