$10 Bank of the Valley of Virginia 1860 Pre-Civil War Era Obsolete Banknote:

Hello andwelcome to this sale. I am not a dealer. I am a collector like those of youviewing this listing. This banknote is one of several duplicates that I don’tneed. I primarily sell records (LPs and 45 RPM), but also know about banknotesand their grading. THERE IS ON THIS sale and I HAVE A LOW STARTING offer.

In this sale:

· $10 The Bank of the Valley of Virginia, Commonwealth of Virginia Banknote

· PRE-CIVIL WAR ERA OBSOLETE SOUTHERN STATES BANKNOTE

· Obsolete banknote withwritten/printed date of “September 20,1860.”

· Printing on banknote reads thatthe bank is located at Winchester, a town in the northern area of the ShenandoahValley in Virginia.

· Center vignette features Commerceseated holding a rolled document beside barrel and Tobacco plants with cows, atown with church spires and train in the background.

· At lower right is vignette ofLiberty seated with cap and pole.

· At left is an oval portrait of firstU.S. President, George Washington, a native of Virginia.

· Vignette at bottom center of thenote is of a locomotive pulling coal car.

· Engraver: “Toppan, Carpenter& Co Philad” which is printed near the bottom center of the note.

· Reverse has an elaborate designprinted in green ink with “10” in the center. (It’s unusual to see printed backs on such local bank-issued banknotesas the one in this sale.)

· CONDITION: VERY GOOD . The note has what appear to be a few thumbtackholes at all 4 corners. A very small portion of the top left corner is missingand there is a small hole near that corner. There is also a very small tear tothe left of Washington’s portrait. There are 5 extremely tiny pin holes at the lower center of the notethat can only be seen with a back light.

· The banknote is still quite attractive, without stains,and will be a nice addition to someone’s collection, for sure.
