Thisis an original bound leather edition of the 1864 Peterson\'s Magazine edited by Mary Carver. Itincludes 12 issues of the magazine which feature fashions of this Civil War year. The issues are full of stories, poems, patterns for embroidery, lace, and crochet. The book has pages of illustrations of bonnets, children\'s clothes, gowns, and ladies clothes of all types. The front of every issue has large black and white etchings of children and families of the year. Each issue also features a color tinted print of ladies fashions of that month. The August plate is missing but all theothers are present and undamaged as several of my photos show. The colors are still nice on these plates. This fascinating book gives you a look into the past and has wonderful examples of all types of Civil Warera clothing, hats and home living of the time. The book has been around151 years so itdoes showwear and age. All pages have some foxing and since the paperwas not fine when printed the edges are worn and yellowed. The first several pages do have some holes and tears and the last 2-3 pages of advertising for the December issue are missing as shown. Several issues also have color plates of patterns for embroidery or other items of clothing. Thebook\'s 12 issues include stories, poems, and musicthat provide an insight to an era long since past. If you are looking for original information on patterns, clothing styles, Civil War stories, this is the book for you.
