Rulau Ma-Bo-13. (1873) Boston Numismatic Society. Superb Gem Proof. Copper. 31mm. Plain Edge. (Wright 89.) Both sides of New England Shilling above pine tree on a hill, INSTITUTED/1860 above, all within central circle. Around,in two concentric circles: PRESIDENCY OF ULYSSES S. GRANT/****1873****/BOSTON NUMISMATIC SOCIETY /INCORPORATED 1870. Rv: Society seal in central circle. Around, in two concentric circles: TWIN DELVERS IN THE GARDEN OF HISTORY/ (ISAAC F. WOODS/MEMORIAL SERIES)/ N.E.HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL/*SOCIETY*. This specimen is the very rare (D.No.2) variety. In all these years,no one has ever absolutely explained the reason for (D.No.2). It remains an enigma! I discussed this medal with Dave Baldwin (Lovett Token Site) and he said, other than his specimen in copper, this is the only other copper one that he\'s aware of. He (Dave B.) also has a brass example. The \"D.No.2\" is located on the obverse @ 4:00 after the word \"GRANT\". This medal, if submitted for grading, would be a lock\" 65-66-67\". The medal is also a deep-mirror proof with cameo devices! You will wait a long time to see another, especially this attractive!
