You are offerding on an antique hardcover book titled GLIMPSES OF FIFTY YEARS: The Autobiography of An American Woman by Frances E. Willard. Written by Order of the National Woman\'s Christian Temperance Union. Introduction by Hannah Whitall Smith.

Large thick octavo, pictorial green cloth stamped in black, silver and gold, pp. 698 plus Ancestry appendix, illustrated (including full-page engraved plates, text vignettes, a double-page chromolithograph entitled \"Massachusetts Woman\'s Christian Temperance Union- For God and Home and Native Land,\" and a page of manuscript by Frances E. Willard, reproduced in holograph facsimile.

Frances Elizabeth Caroline Willard (September 28, 1839 – February 17, 1898) was an American educator, temperance reformer, and women\'s suffragist. Her influence was instrumental in the passage of the Eighteenth (Prohibition) and Nineteenth (Women Suffrage) Amendments to the United States Constitution. Willard became the national president of Woman\'s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in 1879, and remained president for 19 years. She developed the slogan \"Do everything\" for the women of the WCTU to incite lobbying, petitioning, preaching, publication, and education. Her vision progressed to include federal aid to education, free school lunches, unions for workers, the eight-hour work day, work relief for the poor, municipal sanitation and boards of health, national transportation, strong anti-rape laws, and protections against child abuse.

The covers are firmly attached although the front inner hinge is partially exposed. Corners are worn. The pages are clean and tightly bound. Has decorative endpages. No writing in book and no signs of previous ownership. The book remains in good-plus condition.
