The now extinct Mimbres culture existed in the AmericanSouthwest from circa 200 to 1150 A.D. The culture is best known for thefantastic creatures they painted upon small to medium sized bowls. This is areplication of a bowl upon which a wonderful quail is dynamically rendered in ahighly stylized fashion. The bowl is richly covered in strong fire clouds and asmoky patina that can only be achieved by a wood fire in an earth pit. It isauthentic appearing in every way and would confound all but the most astutearcheologist or dedicated collector as to the fact that it is not indeed a Mimbresoriginal artifact.
