*** For sale today is this absolutely top grade 9ct Gold Waltham Vanguard Pocket Watch, it has 23 jewels, isadjusted, 6 positions, itcomes with a lovely & heavy 9ct Gold Double Albert Chain & comes in a box***
The case is in superb condition with good strong hinges & no bad bumps or heavyscratches. Itis hallmarked on the back cover with ,375, thena 9, both for 9ct gold then an anchor for the Birmingham assay office & the dateletter \"Q\" for 1940. The dust cover is also hallmarked with .375 &the 9 for 9ct gold & it has A.L.Dwith Dennison Regular made in England & the number 678436,The stem also has A.L.D & .375 & 9 for 9c gold. The glass crystal is domed & clean with no scratches or chips. The dial is lovely & cleanwith no cracks or hairlines just a small amount of edge nibbles/chipping at about 1 oclock & a tiny amount at 4(please see pictures)This is not seen though once the front bezel is down & hardly noticeable otherwise. Because of the details being know you could easily acquire a dial if wanted but it\'s not really noticable. The dial is signed Waltham USA Vanguard 23 Jewels. Grabthis scarce p/watchwhile you can it\'s a super timepiece & keeps absolutely fantastictime. I\'ve given it 3 runs this week & it has never been more than 15 seconds out in a full wind. Last wind it was 12 seconds out in 26 hours. I cant guarantee this all the time but it has a super movement & if kept up to by servicing I cant see why it can\'t continue this accurateThe movement is a beauty a Waltham Vanguard are one of the best movements they made at that time it\'s a top grade movement with gold centre wheel & balance wheelweights. it has 23 Jewels & is adjusted to6 positions.Please look on the Waltham database the movement number is 29455637, it shows the date of the movement to be 1937/8 which ties in with the case, it will have been imported by Waltham\'s business partners In England Aaron Lufkin Dennisonof A.L.D who was managing director of Waltham UK & thenset up onhis own. He will have imported these movements then cased them upbyhis company A.L.D, Dennison watch case company, Handsworth Birminghamthen sold to the high end clients in London & Jewellers around the country. This is a superb case & movement. the P/watch measures 49mm & weighs a heavy 87.5 grams
It comes with a super 9ct gold double albert chain with 9ct gold fob medal, the chain is hallmarked with the 9 & .375 on each link tbar & dog clips too, the tbar dog clips & the centre link of one half of the chain all have the same makers mark on ofH A & Sfor Henry Allday & sons, Warstone Lane Birmingham who were watch chain manufacturers It looks like it has the date letter \"c\" on the joining ring this s for Birmingham 1927. The fob medal is a fancy bright cut pattern around a shield on one side & an embossed outlined shield on the other, it has the 375 &the 9 for 9ct goldIt also hasChester assay mark & date letter \"D\" for 1929 the makers mark is JL For Joseph Lyddiatt, Monument Road Birmingham. Its length is 440 mm & it weighs altogether 56.1 grams
*** This is a superb set& scarce high grade pocket watch, with23 jewels, adjusted to 6 positions, it comesin a9 ctgold case, with no inscriptions or initials on the case Ithas a lovely 9ct gold graduating albert chain with9ct gold uninscribed fobmedal to go withit, so could be personalised. Its atop wound & lever set movement & keeping excellent time, a must have for any pocket watch lover. Happy offerding.***
