Charming blue and white porcelain jar from the late 1800s which held \"toilet cream.\" The lid reads Countie of Boston which identifies the maker of the cream and has nice little ads on the sides of the jar. For example one reads \"An Exquisite Communion of rare Biosoms [meant to read Blossoms]. The uneven lettering and misspellings are quirky and speak to the age of the jar. There is some brown residue around the top where the lid and bowl meet. It is what is left of some sort of sealant to keep the lid and bowl in place We have left most of this alone because it helps to verify the age of the jar. There are some reproductions out there without this sort of indicator. The sealant can be scraped off easily with a fingernail. The jar with lid in place measures approximately 2 1/2 inches high. Without the lid the jar measures 1 3/4 high. At its widest point it measures approximately 3 1/2 inches. The base measures 2 3/4 inches across and has the residue of a tag and three green felt spots to cushion furniture. The jar is delightful and in excellent condition.
