This is a large superb quality and very rare design antique sterling silver Victorian circa 1890 Scottish Cairngorm citrine bog oak handled Sgian Dubh design kilt pin or large brooch. The quality is outstanding with exquisite use of metal, wood and stone work producing a very high quality brooch!.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The top stone is a lovely facetted champagne citrine from the Cairngorm mountain range which has been fully tested by a local jeweller to confirm it is a citrine.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for brooches of this period, but has been fully tested and is sterling silver.The length is huge at 10.1 cm ( Four inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original. The engraving on the silver is particularly beautiful and the wooden bog oak handle is a work of art!
In summary this is a very high quality and rare design Scottish kilt pin or large brooch. I have never seen one like this and unlikely to see one again!!
