WHAT IS AN ERZGEBIRGE NUTCRACKER? First let me explain the “Erzgebirge” is not a maker, nor a city. It is the mountainous area in the Eastern part of Germany that borders on the Czech Republic. The word means “Ore Mountains”. The area used to be a rich mining area, and as the mines were depleted, the people turned to their wood working hobbies for their livelihood, and the area has become famous for its wooden toys. There are many nutcracker makers in the Erzgebirge, some large factories employing many workers and numerous family workshops. Since these makers still make their nutcrackers in the traditional styling, we use the term “Erzgebirge” to describe all nutcrackers and smokers made in this region.

THESE NUTCRACKERS have been in storage for over 25 years in Germany and the USA, they are in the original box. Some boxes show wear and tear from storage. All nutcrackers are new/old stock.
BOTTOM OF THE NUNCRACKER, some nutcrackers have both the stamp and sticker as shown, some have only the stamp and some only the sticker.
