Up for sale are two rare advertising portfolios from the Hartford Insurance Group and the Travelers Insurance Company commemorating the centennial of the Civil War.
Both are very hard to find collectible items.
The first portfolio from the Hartford Group features President Abraham Lincoln and General Robert E. Lee who were both insured with the Hartford. The decorative folder has prints of each inside. They are reproduced from original wood engravings by Bernard Brussel-Smith. Also included in the portfolio are copies of both of their original insurance policies from Hartford Fire Insurance. This portfolio measures 8.0\" x 10.0\".
The second decorative portfolio from the Travelers Insurance Company has two separate reprints of both the Union Commanders and the Confederate Commanders. The original prints by the Norman Photo Company, were from 1884 and were the first known examples of photography in advertising and the composite photo process. Both portfolios are in very good condition. The larger Travelers Insurance folder has stains on the cover and creasing. The pictures inside have no stains but minor corner creasing. The Hartford Insurance folder has some very tiny marks on the cover only.
