This is a very interesting, large, goldtone brooch made by Coro with the Pegasus logo. Coro produced a line of brooches called Heraldic Line Medals. Research shows that this particular medal is considered rare to very rare. The brooch is 2\" and is in excellent condition. Coro made medal brooches during WWII.
\"Coro, Cohen & Rosenberger began early in the 1900\'s in Providence, Rhode Island. As CORO they are familiar to all costume jewelry lovers. CORO made jewelry from about 1920 until the 1970\'s and probably did it under more different names than any other maker. Coro with the Pegasus symbol was used in the 1930\'s and 1940\'s. Vendome (1944-1979) , Corocraft (1935-1980), and Duette are just three examples.
History of the medal: The Order was created in 1874 by the Sultan of Anjouan, Mohamed Said Omar, to reward services to the Sultanate and to France ‘our protector’. The Order became a French Colonial Order by the decrees of 10 and 23 May 1896. The Order became defunct on 3 December 1963 as far as the French were concerned but it may have continued to be awarded locally until Anjouan joined the independent Comoros in 1975. Anjouan is an island in the Comoros, situated in the Indian Ocean between northern Madagascar and the African mainland.\"
