Union Submarine “Alligator”This is a brand new resin model kit. It is a 1/72nd scale Union Submarine “Alligator”. The finished model is about 8 1/2″ long overall, and includes the parts needed to build the boat in its early version with propulsion paddles(shown here) or the later version with a propeller and modified rudder. The kit also includes the Diver Figure shown but stand no included.About the vessel:
Launched in 1862 during the Civil War, Alligator was a 47-foot long submarine that was primarily intended to counter the threat of the Confederate ironclad, the Virginia. She was an engineering marvel that helped usher in a new era in undersea travel. But until recently, little was known about the green, 47-foot-long Union vessel. The Alligator was lost off the North Carolina coast during a storm in 1863. It was never seen again. Please note: Kits are in production now but will ship approx. 7-10 days after payment is received.
