An original Civil War letter & cover with color patriotic illus , from Private Belcher at Pleasant Hill ( NE Washington, near the site of The Catholic University) Aug 9, 1861 to Sister Annette at Sharon, Mass - he is constantly on the march and seeks word from home & E. Foxboro- he is living in a tent & hungry, expects the War will end soon with Jeff Davis\'s death after Butler & Col Hawkins victories at Hatteras Inlet North Carolina. 3pp 8 x 5\". Age spots, edge wear, Overall VG. Comes w service info- Edward Belcher of Sharon, Mass served 3 years w the 12th Massachusetts infantry & was wounded at Antietam. The letter has a handsome color illus of a US Flag soldier & cannon, the cover has a color illus of the Federal Shield & Eagle, and the reverse has the lyrics of The Star Spangled Banner.
