Hopi Indian Small Kachina Dolls set of three VGC Cottonwood Authentic post 1940:
$56.00

This is a beautiful set of three of the most charming Hopi Kachinas: Sikayanchantaka, the Old Man dancer, Ka\'e, the Corn dancer, and Koyemsi, the popular Mudhead Dancer who narrates the dances. They stand about 5 1/2\" tall. They are carved of traditional cottonwood root. It is light and easy to carve, and is sacred to the Hopi as it draws life-giving water out ofthe desert to allow the trees to grow.

These unusual small Kachinas were carved by Hopi women of the Holmes family, multi-generational carvers in Second Mesa, Arizona (center of the Hopi reservation near the east rim of the Grand Canyon).

They are quite authentic and were made especially for a local collector as thanks for her long-time support and friendship for this Hopi family and to help protect and heal her when she was ill. The collector did, in fact, recover, and passed away only recently. These Kachinas are about 50 years old.

These would make a great gift for anyone who loves the Grand Canyon and the charm of Native American Art! A few authentic Hopi Kachinas are a charming addition to a home!

Note: Cottonwood root is fragile. We make every effort to pack our Kachinas very carefully for shipping but, occasionally, small pieces or details can be knocked off in transit. If this happens, the pieces can usually be easily repaired with cements like crazy glue to the point that they are barely noticeable. We recommend that Kachinas be displayed in a cabinet or display case so they do not get damaged.

Originally Kachinas were carved without bases and were hung from the walls to watch over a home. In about the 1960\'s, Hopi carvers began to add bases so that the figures could be “action figures” and portray the dancing that Hopi men, dressed as Kachina Spirits, perform at Hopi ceremonies. This makes them much more difficult to carve but makes them easier to display.

We can pack and ship these Kachinas anywhere in the continental US for $15.International buyers must contact us before offerding to determine shipping requirements.

There is for this sale. Happy offerding and thank you for looking!
