Be swept back in time! From my traveling museum collection, which began at age 15, I offer for your consideration:
A delicate cream colored cotton netting and bead trimmed tea dress in the Titanic style. This lovely frock has a netting lined bodice which hooks down the front center. There\'s a small mend near the hook, see photo. Over this inner layer is another netted outer layer wich closes with snaps. There\'s a slight brown stain on the front center outer layer. The waist fastens with hooks and eyes and snaps, and also snaps down the side of the skirt. The hours and hours of work that went into attaching the tiny white beads all over the dress is amazing!
There are areas where the beaded design is larger, like circles. Throughout the dress there are beads missing, not uncommon with an antique garment. Should you want perfect condition off the rack clothing then this is probably not for you. Antique pieces are not pristine, and fabrics are different than those of today. Antique fabrics are often thinner, the sheerness was to keep the lady cooler in the heat. Remember, no AC back then.
The bottom half of the dress, skirt area, is not lined. A slip would be needed underneath. It came directly from an estate this way. There is a brown stain on the right side torso, see photo, and a very faint stain on the front skirt. So light that it didn\'t show in the photo. I try to describe as accurately as possible. The gathered netting on the sleeves is so pretty! The fabric is strong, it\'s in good wearable condition. Great for reenactors, to wear to a tea social, or as a lovely antique display.
