Up for sale is aMother-of-PearlPink Satin Glass Open Salt Cellar Dip in Silver Plate Holder & Spoon.

This beautiful circa 1880-1890’sopen salt is pictured in The Open Salt Compendium (Plate 129) by Jzyk &Robertson, where they describe it as “mother-of-pearl satin glass with ribbontype air traps and a berry pontil...” and is noted to be “very rare”. The lovely layered glass salt is designedwith soft folds in white satin glass on the exterior and light pink satin glasson the interior and swirling stripes throughout. It also have white satin rigree around themiddle of the bowl and a berry pontil mark on the bottom. It sits firmly in its heavily silver plated holderthat has a ruffled and beaded rim and three detailed legs that end in claw feet. An electro-plated 3” long salt spoon alsoaccompanies the set and is marked “J.D. & S, EP”. The salt in the holder measures 2-1/4” highby 2-7/8” in diameter at the flared ruffled rim. The salt is in very good condition with onlyone small chip to the interior pink glass near a rim fold that is difficult to spotwhen displayed (see sixth picture 9 o\'clock mark). The holder and spoon arein excellent condition with very little, if any, plate loss. A gorgeous set!!!
