This artwork weighs approx. 35 lbs. Gallery quality huge Owl totem pole flatback carved and painted in red cedar by First Nations artist Tom LaFortune. It measures 44\" in height, 17\" in width and 5\" in depth. A very solid carving ! Because of the shape this piece is more like a totem pole than a panel.
It is sealed with lemon oil so it gives off a lovely aroma indoors and also protects it from most weather conditions if mounted in an outside setting. Tom thought it would look great in a garden or by an entrance. The carving is fabulous.... rounded edges and extremely detailed !

Tom began carving in 70’s, driven by an inherent connection to his Coast Salish roots (Tsawout). Over the years he has carved many masks, rattles, paddles, dishes, talking sticks and totems. He has also completed paintings and limited edition prints. Most recently he completed a 25 foot pole for Royal Roads University 75 year celebration. This was one of his more recent favourite projects; he was meeting people from all over the world on a daily basis. Another favourite project of his was carving in Canada Place Pavilion during Expo; “The Barenaked Ladies were a new band back then and they performed right across from where I was carving” reminisced Tom. Expo also provided him an opportunity to meet people from around the world.

Tom is raising many poles of his own and his work can be found in collections all over the world. La Fortune’s work is distinguished by its fluidity and refined use of colour.
