Original US M1903 Ramrod Bayonet for Use with early production M1903 Springfield Rifles.

Bayonet looks to be in unissued condition and contains most of the original blueing but does have some extremely light pitting/peppering here and there but nothing that stands out.
Measures approx. 23 1/2\" long.These bayonets were introduced as a replacement for the Krag bayonets which were seen as a useless burden during the late 1800\'s/early 1900\'s.
The story goes that President Theodore Roosevelt reviewed one of these bayonets and in doing so, managed to damage it with little effort. This resulted in him contacting the secretary of war in January of 1905, demanding that the bayonet be replaced with something better.
Approx. 74,000 M1903 rifles were made and Springfield Armory before production was halted.Most of the M1903 rifles were later converted to accept the M1905 bayonets and therefore, many of these bayonets were unissued and lost to time.
