Item: Lovely RareIrish Sterling Silver Large Kings Pattern Tablespoon 1827.Dublin A fantastic and Very large Irish Sterling Silver Tablespoon made during the reign ofKing George IV. The spoon wasmade by highly collectable Irish silversmith Thomas Farnett of Dublin. Thespoon has the benefit of being un-initialled which would make a great gift, has the family crest of the O’Neillfamily to the reverse, who are one of Europe’s oldest Irish names. The spoon has the double struck KingsPattern finish to both sides. Full setof Irish silver hallmarks to the reverse, please see photos. This spoon is made of a thick gauge of silverand very heavy, also has a highly polished silver finish to its entirety. Thiswould have been commissioned by a very wealthy Georgian family of the O’Neilldynasty during this period. Alsobecoming very hard to find the duty stamp mark of King George IV as he onlyreigned for ten years. All in all a superb and wonderful Irish large KingsPattern Tablespoon. The O\'Neill dynasty is a group of families thathave held prominent positions and titles. The O\'Neills take their name fromNiall Glúndub, an early 10th-century High King of Ireland from the CenélnEógain. Confusion then arises because the Cenél nEógain, descendants of Eóganmac Néill, were a branch of the Uí Néill dynasty who took their name from Niallof the Nine Hostages, a legendary 5th century King of Tara. The Uí Néill werein turn a branch of the Connachta, descendants of the legendary Conn of theHundred Battles, son of Fedlimid Rechtmar, son of Tuathal Techtmar.
